Changmin Lee

Director & Producer

His academic interests delve into the cinematic representations of memories, the intentions behind creating those memories, and how they are represented. He's presented papers like "A Study on the Film The Turin Horse as Apocalyptic Film", and is currently directing the film Songs of the Humpback Whale, the outcome of this artistic research rooted in these studies.


At present, he is the producer of an experimental film Books and the World, a catalyst for reflection on human memory and record culture, and an autobiographical essay film Ajisai which addresses the ingrained discrimination faced by Korean-Japanese individuals and restoration of identity. From 2015 to 2022, Changmin Lee served as an instructor and adjunct professor of the department of Film, TV & Multimedia at the Korean National University of Arts, and he conducted lectures on documentary filmmaking and film theory at institutions like Catholic University of Korea and Seoul Institute of Arts.
